📝| Scullion stays!

The club are delighted to confirm that it has completed a hat-trick of signings today with the news that Pat Scullion has joined the club on permanent terms.

Scullion has added much-needed stability to the ‘Gers backline

Club secretary Dennis McCleary has been hard at work behind the scenes at Shielfield Park today to try help get a trio deals over the line, with the additon of Scullion a key part of any activity done for the ‘Gers today.

With Pat’s senior terms with Alloa Athletic set to expire at the end of this month, John Coughlin had admitted his intention and hope of signing Scullion permanently earlier this month.

Though Coughlin had agreed terms with Scullion prior to his contract’s expiry date, SPFL rules dictate that clubs can only have one standard loan player on the books at any given time.

As such, Scullion’s presence as a loan player was preventing the ‘Gers from signing up Dunfermline player Euan Sparks, who does not meet the criteria for the Development terms which the club have been able to sign Aaron Murrell on today.

However, after some communication between the club and Alloa Athletic, the Wasps have kindly agreed to terminate Scullion’s contract a few days early, allowing the man who skippered Berwick in our last league game against Arbroath to put pen to paper on a deal with the ‘Gers, and Berwick to push through the deal for Sparks.

Scullion has rapidly became a fan favourite at Shielfield Park, owing to some committed performances in the heart of the ‘Gers defence, none more impressive than that in a 1-0 win over his former side Cowdenbeath, an effort which earned him the Social Media Man of the Match award.

Despite operating from defence, the experienced 31-year old has managed to net for the club, scoring against Annan Athletic in his second game for the club.

Boss John Coughlin recently stated that whilst he does see Scullion as a central midfield player more naturally, Scullion’s contribution in the heart of Berwick’s defence has made it tough to displace him.

The club are pleased to welcome Pat on a permanent basis and hope his impressive start can continue into an impressive 2017 at Shielfield Park.
